With a 25-year background in IT, cybersecurity, marketing, and growing multiple businesses, I thought I knew what to expect when hiring contractors and service pros for my real estate investments. But time after time, I ran into the same problem: finding trustworthy, available businesses online was harder than it should be. Many had little to no web presence, and even when I did find them, getting a call back felt like winning the lottery. It wasn’t a lack of skill holding them back — it was simply a lack of time.

Through countless conversations with hardworking contractors, I heard the same story again and again: they were too busy chasing referrals, running jobs, managing crews, and handling all the back-office chaos to even think about marketing, websites, or growing their business strategically. Their days were packed from sunup to sundown, and that left no space for building the foundation needed to get found and trusted online. Meanwhile, the businesses I ended up hiring almost every time were the ones who looked professional, were easy to find, and made it easy to say yes.

That’s why I started Pumpkin — to help service businesses win more work without adding more to their plates. Why “Pumpkin”? I got the name from the The Pumpkin Plan, a book by Mike Michalowicz. In the book he describes growing a business like managing a pumpkin patch. You meticulously remove the vines and half-dead pumpkins that are in the way of the healthiest, most robust budding pumpkins. Until one day you have prize-winning gigantapumpkins! That’s what I want to do for businesses who just need the distractions and half-baked marketing removed out of their way so they can grow unabated and to their full capabilities.
